Java Jive

In early March, during the Balinese festive period of Nyepi, Ross embarked across the Indonesian Archipelago to the longboard haven of West Java with good friend and photographer Matt Power in tow. Team riders and local legends of Batukaras Tedi Kurniadi and Mencos were already there lapping up the surf as usual. The forecast was looking promising, with a sizable weather system sitting off the coast, moving slowly and offering the potential for some classic postcard conditions. Alas, as fickle as these things can be, the swell didn’t provide the fruits we were first hoping for. Nonetheless, we made the most of what was on offer, and still managed to score a few magical sessions that will linger in the brain. Plus it’s always nice to have some down time with the crew, sipping coffee and enjoying the slow pace of each day.
